Stripe Press is Stripe's book imprint, launched in 2018 to publish what it calls ideas for progress: works on technological, economic and scientific advancement, with tactical books for operators alongside them. Tamara Winter is the commissioning editor. The catalogue runs to around 19 titles, including Elad Gil's High Growth Handbook, M. Mitchell Waldrop's The Dream Machine and a 2023 reissue of Poor Charlie's Almanack with a foreword by Stripe co-founder John Collison; Stripe Press says that hardcover alone has sold more than 400,000 copies.
Books are a slow channel, and that is the appeal for Stripe. A Stripe Press title sits on the desk of exactly the kind of founder Stripe wants running payments through it, and it stays there for years, which no ad campaign does. The imprint has also produced the Stewart Brand documentary We Are As Gods and the Beneath the Surface podcast, and in 2022 Stripe bought the ideas journal Works in Progress, extending the same idea into a magazine.
