Chartr is the data-visualisation newsletter Robinhood bought for its media arm, Sherwood Media, on 21 December 2023, four years after acquiring MarketSnacks. David Crowther founded it in London in 2018 and turns business and society data into a handful of charts per issue. Robinhood did not disclose terms. The media analysts at RockWater estimated around 500,000 newsletter subscribers and 600,000 social followers at the time.
Chartr kept its own name and its four-a-week cadence, Crowther stayed on as founder and editor, and when Sherwood News launched in April 2024 his charts started appearing across Snacks and the rest of the Sherwood portfolio. For Robinhood the value is a visual, shareable format that travels on social media, feeding readers into an editorial brand that sits one tap from the trading app.
